Standard User Logging On Problem

April 28, 2011 at 18:28:49
Specs: Windows 7
There is no problem logging onto a administrator account the problem only occurs when logging onto a standard user account.

I click the user icon and welcome comes on the screen, then within seconds it says logging off.

The same happens in safe mode.

This started after someone tried to delete a standard user account. They removed it from the C:\Users file, but they did not delete it from the control panel add or remove user accounts. In fact the delete option does not even show up for the standard user anymore.

I would appreciate your thoughts. Thankyou.

Do a system restore to a date before this delete was done. This should repair any damage to system files.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

I have tried a system restore since I posted the problem. Unfortunately system restore did not fix the problem. Administrators can log on without any problem it is only when a standard user infrequently logs on that the problem has shown up. So we have no way of knowing when the problem first started but we think it was when someone tried to delete a user profile by just deleting the profile from the users file.

It sounds like possibly a registry problem, but not sure. Have you tried creating another user account? If you can and it works, maybe copying the folder and renaming it with the original missing user name may make it workable. There may also be instances internally that identify the user that may or may not be changable. If this makes it work, you can then remove it properly. If it does not work, remove it and wait for another answer or post the question to MS.
