Solved sony vaio doesn't recognize my sd or usb anymore?

Specs: Windows 7
A few months ago my Sony Vaio stopped reading cards from the SD slot. I thought it was a loose connection, and bought a USB 3.0 Card Reader which worked fine until a few weeks ago. This is not recognised any longer either. There's nothing wrong with the Card Reader as it works fine on other computers. Can you help? Thanks. Allan

✔ Best Answer
Start by checking Device Manager to see if there's any problems or drivers missing.

Thanks very much for your very prompt reply which is much appreciated. I should have mentioned that I checked and double checked the drivers in device manager, uninstalling, updating etc with no luck. I even thought it might be my anti-virus software (Kapersky) that was blocking it and check that too and what was loading at startup. All that to no avail and I'm stumped!

UPDATE - problem solved
After inspecting Device Manager again I noticed that the 'Ricoh PCIe SD/MMC Host Controller' wasn't functioning correctly. To cut a long story short I couldn't get this to reinstall properly and looked up a solution for my Sony Vaio model and found the following link:- . Right at the bottom of the page was a 'Ricoh PCIe SD/MMC Host Controller' driver. In desperation, I ran this and when I put in my MMC/SD card, the computer 'found' it and installed, 2 drivers:- 'Ricoh PCIe Memory Stick Host Controller' and ' Ricoh PCIe SD/MMC Host Controller'. And problem solved. Took a lot of searching, but I think Sony Vaio's can be quite idiosyncratic like that. Thanks very much to everyone who have made suggestions about a solution.
