Usually you can format it or tell the burner app to erase it. What application are you using? If not then get one from maybe softpedia or portableapps.com.

Any decent burning software will remove all files from a CD-RW closed or otherwise. What software did you use to put the files on the CD-RW? All versions of Windows from XP on should be able to handle this chore for you. There is a boatload of free burning software out there. Google for it.

Unless you are just looking to erase it for security purposes, then sandpaper followed by a hammer will make it permanently unreadable.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

I'd bet the hammer would suffice.

I heard that one could leave the bottom side exposed to sunlight for an hour or two. I can say I tried it. The disk was useless.

Breaking a disk in half will render it unreadable. That said, I don't think that is what the OP had in mind.

I was once told to use chunky peanut butter to clean my disks. Makes them nice and shinny but a bit sticky. Not sure if they can be read haven't been able to open that drive since.
