If you can get into Safe Mode then do a System Restore to a date when all was working right. This will roll back system files, registry and any recent updates or installs, but it will not have any effect on your files or emails. Then run Malwarebytes to check for an infection that may have slipped past your antivirus program.

If you cannot get into Safe Mode then you can use a Windows 7 Repair Disk (you should have made one when the machine was new) and boot to that. Enter Repair and do the System Restore from there. Reboot into Safe Mode and run Malwarebytes. If you did not make the repair disk yet, you can make it from another Windows 7 machine as long as both are 32bit or 64bit.

If these files/emails are valuable then you definitely should have made a back up of them. Post back results and more details.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
