sleep mode greyed out on W7 upgraded from XP

April 18, 2011 at 16:08:10
Specs: Windows7 Ultimate, AMD Sempron / 2gig ram
I went from xp to windows 7 ultimate and now the "sleep" option is disabled. I have re-installed my video drivers with the cd supplied with with my monitor. I have tried to re install the motherboard drivers (originals from the cd) but it won't let me install them because a newer version is already installed. Read that I should go into the bios to reset it but how would the bios change by installing windows 7 over xp home. It worked fine when I had xp. Thanks

Go to mfg's website and get the proper drivers for your system specifically for Windows 7 (32bit or 64bit), your disk was intended for XP so those drivers will not work. AFTER you have the proper drivers, if you still do not have the sleep option, go to power options and see if you can enable it there.
If you do not find Windows 7 drivers for your system, then you apparently did not use the Windows 7 upgrade adviser to see if your system is Windows 7 compatible and you should go back to XP. Most older systems do not run better on W7, it is best for newer systems.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

been looking for drivers for my system (via k8v series motherboard) but the manufacturer doesn't have anything for windows 7 (64 bits). Used the upgrade adviser before switching. All I had to do was to upgrade the memory and had a few programs that weren't compatible with win 7. Will keep seaching, sooner or later I should find a solution. I have all the latest updates for win 7. Thanks.
