There are no Windows 7 drivers for the LX-300+ Impact Printer.
The latest drivers that Epson released are for Windows Vista, so Windows 7 is not supported. That may account for the problems you are having:

You need to buy a printer for which there are Windows 7 drivers available, or are supplied with the printer on a driver CD.

Long shot... a fudge in effect.. Install a simple Vista system in a virtual Machine. Then possibly you "could" boot into Vista from within win-7) and print from Vista - using the Vista drivers etc.? Files on the host system (win-7) will be available for the Vista OS running in a VM.

As I say it's a l-o-n-g shot; and not something I've actually tried...; so can't say for certain it would work.

Check the manual for that model. Often those old dot matrix printers had a DIP switch to change compatibility. There may be one for another epson or an IBM proprinter. Of course I'm not sure about compatibility of those on windows 7 either.

Also set up the parallel port in bios setup as a simple bidirectional flow. Sometimes the more advanced port settings--ECS and that other one--don't work as well with older printers.
