Solved Search but don't index

February 14, 2014 at 04:19:33
Specs: Win 7
I want to be able to "Search programs and files" from the
text input box on the Start Menu as well as from Explorer
windows, but I don't want the computer to do ANY indexing.
Is that possible?

Windows 7 with SP1, built and installed by me.

Turn off indexing if it has been installed. Windows 7.

It appears, from that page on Black Viper's website and the
linked page on "Windows Search", that indexing for Windows
Search cannot be turned off without disabling Windows Search
completely.

I had turned off indexing, but I still see scads of index files,
including new ones.

I use OPTION TWO.

If I recall correctly, option two causes Windows to change the
properties of each and every file on the drive to mark them as
not to be indexed. Which implies that the indexer still tries to
index every file, and only goes on to the next file when it sees
that the current file should be skipped.

Re #4

When it has finished that process the indexing should then stop.
Search will still work but it will be slower.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
