Solved Seamonkey can't open/send yahoo emails

April 16, 2014 at 07:50:54
Specs: Windows 7 64 bit, i5 / 8gB mem
Intel i5 3GHz pc, win7 64bit.

Up till last week yahoo mail worked fine, read / compose.

Now when I open the yahoo mail window and select , anything, with mouse over text changes colour, but the function or menu doesn't activate or select.

However when I use Firefox to read Yahoo mail, I can read the emails and send / compose the emails.
The top task bar also works fine. e.g. I can jump to News, Weather, Flickr.

Q. Where does my Seamonkey problem lie.

Help if possible please
More Info: I tried and reinstalled the V242, I installed and earlier V2.0
All refuse to open emaols

I read over on the Seamonkey official forum that Yahoo has changed a couple of things this week that only affects Seamonkey so Mozilla has to fix it, not Yahoo. No fix yet.

Official advice is to use Firefox instead until the Seamonkey development team get it fixed in an update.

Many thanks Phil22.
at the same time as I hwas posing the question on the forum I was also hopefully scouring the Internet for others who had found a lead to why this was happening.

I don't think I could agree with any of them... well maybe one lady who said something like " the ways of Yahoo are strange, but those of Mozilla more mysterious".

Getting back to 'can't open Yahoo emails', yes indeed Sir, your wait and see advice is the best on offer..

So I'll drop out of the thread and I think as Mozilla changed it, Mozilla can ( MAYBE) fix it.

Have a nice Easter Holiday

Dear Gurus ( I'm not)

The issue with Seamonkey and
......Seamonkey can't open/send yahoo emails.... was unsolved

We left on the back burner waiting for either Yahoo or Seamonkey to solve the difficulty.

Recap: I can open yahoo mail in Firefox but not in Seamonkey.

Well having a bit of time on my hands I began to delve into Sea Monkey help. not for faint hearts going into that jungle.

And there was a recommendation as to check that in "about.config"
The line .... may wrongly be set to false. It should be set to true.

What they didn't say was how to get into about:config.
Solution : set Seamonkey to work off-line and then about:config opens up the internal settings ..

In my case I had to add the line 'network.protocol-handler.external.mailto'
adding some additional fields
User setting

After that next steps
Close Seamonkey
Restart Seamonkey
File menu : unselect work off line,

Hurray I can now open my emails and compose replies.

Please don't ask me why they are shipping the latest Seamonkey with this missing but essential line of code, but it is necessary.

Bye and Good
