Scripts causing IE8 to freeze up

Amd Phenom ii x4 965 quad core processor

Specs: Windows 7 64-bit, AMD 965BE Quad
I just installed Win 7 64-bit and am running into a very frustrating error in IE8 that I never had before in WinXP.

When browsing certain websites, the browser totally freezes up for 1-2 mins and then I get the error message:

"A script on this page is causing IE to run slowly. If it continues to run, your computer may become unresponsive. Stop running this script?"

I can't figure out how to stop freezing & message from happening. It's happening on a variety of websites such as tomshardware forums:

have you tried resetting internet explorer?
