Screen resolution keeps changing

Specs: Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, Intel Core2 Quad Q83001 2.5GHz/ 4MB
I have a Gateway SX2802-01 desktop computer. I have a 22" Acer monitor plugged into the VGA port. In the HDMI port I have a Vizio M190 TV plugged in that I use as a second monitor. When I first added the Vizio everything worked fine. Then I noticed the screen resolution on the Acer would change from 1680x1050 to 800x600 every time the monitor goes to sleep. The desktop icons will also disappear on occasion or move themselves to the other side of the screen.

The Acer is Monitor 2 and the Vizio is Monitor 1, although I use the Acer as the primary monitor and only turn the Vizio on when I need a second monitor. It is set to "extend these displays". I would prefer to have the Acer as 1 and the Vizio as 2.

Any suggestions on how to get the screen resolution to stay where I set it?

This is a fault with dual display or cloning. When the system goes to sleep and wakes back up, the default resolution is often changed because the folder holding that temporary information is altered because the monitor in a sense is shut off. So because of that, it will by default go to the lowest resolution possible, which in your case, is 800x600.

There is only one way to fix this and thats to take the monitor going to sleep option off.
