screen goes black after startup

Specs: Windows 7
Ok. So it starting having problems a few hours ago when i installed a new modem. The modem wasn't the problem though. While hooking it up i accidentally bumped the plug that the monitor plugs into and it bumped the chip that it plugs into loose. Of course at the time i dind't realize. All i realized was my screen was black. So i restarted it five or six times than opened it up and found the problem. i plugged it back in and the screen went on just fine. But as i got into the user login screen about ten seconds of it sitting there the screen just goes off and says its in power mode. But it won't go back on. Did i damage some driver software by restarting it in the middle of stuff or what??

if it runs in safe mode, do a system restore to the last or second to last restore point. start/all programs/maintenece/backup and restore/recover system settings/start system restore takes only 5 mins and you will not lose any files

i hate computers!
but cant help myself....
