Solved Safely Remove Hardware icon non-functional in my Windows 7

Specs: Windows 7, 2GB ram
Safely Remove Hardware icon stopped functioning. I see the icon but it doesn't work when I click on it. How do I restore function?

Run the System File Checker, it will check for and replace any corrupted system files.
It may fix the problem:

Open a command prompt window.
Type SFC /SCANNOW
Press <Enter>

If that doesn't fix it, restore system from a restore point that's dated before the problem was first noticed.

There's third party 'safely remove' software you might want to look into. Here's one:

I believe they have a one-time charge of about $15. There's probably some freebies too.

SFC and system restore did not fix the problem. I will try a 3rd party software.
