Specs: windows 7, 8GB
Ever since Windows Media Player 9, the version have been crap and very difficult to deal with. I found this link (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yp7qmclz5fI) quite some time ago and implemented it. It was worked great and I was once successfully and enjoyably able to use WPM. But because of patched I guess, I am back to WMP 12. I just started using t again after a long absence and once again I am having the same headaches, so I tried the above link again. Well I was able to get version 9 installed, but it only works for a little while, and then it seems any change I make to my library freezes and it no longer gets updated. Restarting WPM leaves my library looking as nothing but a black screen. I am wondering if MS has tightened things up so this is no longer workable.

Consider VLC player. It is free and plays about all file types:

Derek,

Does VLC has a media library like WMP that shows the song, artist, bitrate, and length. I have duplicate songs that I want to listen to and clean up.

Not sure - they are not things I use. This seems to imply there is a media library of sorts:

The feature I like is that you can select the player by right clicking a folder and it plays all media files within it - same as WMP. This feature list might be of interest:

"anyone still running it with Windows 7?"

Nope. But why run WMP9 when the latest version for Win7 is WMP12?
