Specs: Windows 7 HP
Hi, i just got a new laptop and my brother installed everything on it for me but he spelt my name wrong when naming the main user in the C drive. I can't seem to be able to rename the user folder i have tried many times. Everytime i get a message saying i need permission to perform this action and that i need permission from the SYSTEM to make changes to this folder, even though i am the administrator! It's really annoying me. Please help. E.g C:\Users\Wrong Name Here\Recent

Thanks so much.

Make a new user with the correct name. Save your important personal data to a flash drive or usb drive and then delete the old user.

Changing the name in the User area only changes the display name. It does not change the name of the folder in Users.

The quickest way to change is to create the account with the correct name. Logoff the current account and logon to the new one. Once the desktop is up you can open the old profile and copy the portions you want to the same area of the new one.

The areas that normally need copying are Desktop, Downloads, Favorites, My Documents, My Music and My Pictures. If you are using Office you might want to copy Contacts.

Once the files are completely copied open each area to check they finished. Once the verification is done you can go to the User area and delete the old account, data and all. This will erase the profile folder and all files.
