remove plug and play device in device manager

Specs: Win 7 64 bit, 1.5GHz/256MHz
I have a Sony VGN-NW240F laptop. In the device manager under sound I have two listings. One is the generic HD audio device with a Microsoft driver. Also, there is a Realtek HD audio device with both the Microsoft and Realtek drivers listed in driver details. I have had problems with the sound not working once in a while I think because of a conflict between the two devices. When I uninstall the generic HD audio device, the sound works fine so I don't need it. However, when I restart the computer, windows lists the generic device again. How can I permanently remove the generic HD audio device from being listed in the device manager since I don't need it to make the sound work. I need to keep the Microsoft drivers for it but just remove the listing in the device manager. A friend told me that there might be a file or files in the windows inf folder that might do it? Thanks!

Try disabling it in Device Manager instead of uninstalling it.
