Specs: Win 7 Pro 64 bit, Intel Dual Core 3Gb
Is it possible to establish a remote desktop connection (mstsc) between a windows 7 home premium and a windows 8 professional PC that are both on the same wireless network? I have googled it and what I've read suggested that it is only possible to do this if both machines are running professional versions of windows. I currenly use team viewer to control one from the other but it would be nice if I could just use the inbuilt remote desktop software built into windows. I would also like to be able to browse the folder structure of each PC from the other one by entering "\\pcname\c$" into the run menu. Currenly I dont seem to be able to do this. Can anyone help me out with this?

Don't use remote desktop, use 3rd party applications , such as
Google Chrome's Remote Desktop Viewer
Splashtop (Client and Streamer)

Splashtop is the best , it works on local network , and is really fast!

Just looked at splashtop. it appears to be designed to allow you to connect to a PC from a mobile device. I want something that will allow me to connect from another PC on the same wireless network. Can splashtop do this?

For those who are intersted I managed to get the inbuild remote desktop client working. Seems that microsoft crippled the home version of windows so that remote desktop wouldnt work. I followed the simple instructions here:

and it works perfectly.
