Specs: Windows 7
hi there,

i'm not sure how to just install - Microsoft Outlook? (i have windows7 o/s disk) do i have to uninstall the whole windows prog or can i just re-install that one thing?

it got uninstalled ..after a previous issue went pear shaped ..transferring my email files, folders and contacts from my old comp. i got the folders, but they were duplicated as i stuffed up by not copying the pst files properly (or something?) ..couldn't fix it so uninstalled the program. i don't care about the contacts anymore.. but i do need to have access to a working mail program ie: microsoft outlook. my new ISP (tpg) doesn't really provide you with a working email facility.. emails are only stored temporarily and you don't get any sent folders etc.. they advise you used yr own mail program for your tpg account mail they mentioned Outlook. so here i am. !

any clues? muchly appreciate you help.

cheers
Sam

Extract Your Key From Microsoft Windows or Office

If you can’t find your key but the software is installed, you can use a program such as the Magical Jelly Bean Key Finder. This utility can quickly locate your Windows key (along with the keys for many other installed programs) and display it for you.

Download Magical Jelly Bean and follow the installation process to install it on your computer.
Launch the program. You can find it by opening the Start menu, typing keyfinder, and pressing Enter.
The program will scan your installations and find the product keys of supported programs, including various versions of Windows and Microsoft Office.
When the scan is complete, the tool will display a window with entries in the left pane for whatever installed versions of Windows and Office it detected.
Click the entry for your version of Microsoft Windows to reveal the key and other information about the installation. The key will be listed under 'CD Key' on the right side of the window. Record this information in case you need to reference it in the future. Make sure to record the information exactly, as the key will not work otherwise. Do not confuse this with the 'Product ID' entry, which is unneeded.
Click the entry for your version of Microsoft Office to reveal the key and other information about that installation. The same advice goes for Office: Your key will be listed under 'CD Key' on the right side of the window. Record this information exactly, as the key will not work otherwise.

MS Outlook is NOT part if Windows, you will need a copy of MS Office in order to install Outlook.

I am not sure if Outlook is available as a single application, but if you have an Office DVD you can install Office/Outlook from there.

oh right thanks! i have the office home and business 2010 disc, it's brand new. my friend bought it for me, he installed everything but as i said, i made a mess of outlook and the only option seemed to be to uninstall outlook. i thought if you can remove one maybe you can juts install one? the disk has word, excel, powerpoint, one note and outlook. so do i need to uninstall any of those, and then re-install all of them at once? not sure how it works. would my word files be deleted?

If you put the DVD in, you should be asked if you want to Uninstall or Modify or even Repair the install.

From here you can select either modify and choose to install additional applications.

However my advice would be to totally uninstall the whole of office, from control panel / programs and features - then reinstall a fresb copy from the disk, I assume your friend gave you the product key as well right?

without the product key you will not be able to install.

Let us know how you get on

I agree with the advice above, i use Magic JellyBean often.

Yes when you uninstall Office all your data will remain intact, however to be able to read the documents you will need to reinstall Office again using your DVD and the extracted licence key.
