HELP GRAND DAUGHTER OF 14 WRECKED HER one year old hppq 56
When I bought the laptop, I created the recovery disks as instructed.
Her computer I believe has a virus, or she deleted program files.
I followed the steps as suggested.
1. I held down the ESC key while I turned on her laptop
2. Then pressed F11. then the system booted, and went into her login screen. Would not go to the RECOVERY SCREEN. It just wants me to login with her password. When I do, windows opens windows 7. When I open up her list of programs, Program names are there but the PAPER ICON looks empty. Help me this thing cost too much.

when you put the disk in the laptop, enter the BIOS/setup (F10) and look for the boot order and put the dvd drive 1st and save settings.

I am a hardware guy not a software guy but i try to help.

"When I bought the laptop, I created the recovery disks as instructed" OUTSTANDING!

Let us get this straight. Your grandaughter deleted somehow programs. There is only one computer in this story?

Dunno why you pressed esc key. The recovery of an HP is just a single F key at boot. I am not at one right now so I can't say but never heard of using the esc key.

I assume that you want to return this to the as bought condition with this entire task.

So either just press the correct key at boot or boot to the dvd's to return it to as bought state.

Don't freak out. I feel sure we can fix it. This recovery will usually remove any data that was not there when new.

Hang up and live.
