Specs: Windows 7
I had a crash and freeze. I used a reocery for windows 7 restore to factory settings, after getting miss led by eMachines sales. They told me the restore would not effect applications excell word or photos. Is there any hope to recover these files? They could be in an other partion, in the hidden files or on the Z: drive. Please Help.

If you had them on the same drive as you restored, they're gone. They wouldn't be in hidden files and folders, but do a search to see if you come up with anything.

'after getting miss led by eMachines sales.'
Jointhe happy ranks of dell and others...they NEVER tell you to back up anything...all they say is restore or reformat...it's a cop out they use for many problems...next time, just hold in your power button untill the PC shuts down safely. Then reboot...you probably would have been fine...oh well!

try recuva, it's free and may find and recover some of your files. Don't forget, the more you install on your PC, the less chance you have at recovering them.

Some HELP in posting on Computing.net plus free progs and instructions Cheers

Depending on the image, it may have saved your old install in "windows.old" files. But if it did a destructive format, both windows Vista and Win 7 write 0's over the old data while formatting it making any recovery nearly impossible.
