recover uninstalled USB ports in Windows 7

August 2, 2011 at 09:51:29
Specs: Windows 7, 2.80 GHz
I run a windows 7 32bit platform on a Pavilion a1542n machine I recently replaced the hard drive but the problem existed before that event. I was using a RS232 cable 9pin to USB to a piece of hardware and it used a specific port I mistakenly uninstalled the USB port that it was using and I haven't beenn able to retrieve this port since. I would like to recover this if I can as it is a USB on the front of the machine and will be easily accessable for the hardware application I will be using it for. I tried to disconnect it from inside but it did not reset. So I'm nor sure where to go from here TIA/Bob Menzies

try another usb port connector on the mobo if you have one, to verify if its the port on the mobo, or the usb connector that is at fault, try another usb connector on the port too.
you may also reinstall your usb drivers from the mobo manufacturer.

i hate computers!
but cant help myself....

You need to make sure you have the Motherboard Chipset drivers installed if you are referring to the internal connectors for the front usb ports. Here is a link to your Specs.
Here is the information about your USB ports available:
· Motherboard manufacturer's name: ASUS P5LP-LE
Back Panel
· Four USB 2.0

Internal Connectors
· Two USB 2.0 connectors supporting 4 additional USB 2.0 ports

Check device manager for a warning under your USB controller and resolve that.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
