DBAN erases ALL data and the OS on the disk it was used on. What did you expect it to do? With no OS on the hard drive most systems will attempt to boot from the network. As that is possible only under some very specific conditions that will fail with the message you are seeing.

You need to reinstall the OS.

Boot to the cd/dvd drive to install an OS. Set it in bios as the first choice.

Hang up and live.

"it says PXE-E61:media test falure check cable"

That means the HDD is no longer being recognized by the BIOS & the system is attempting to boot off a network drive instead. No network drive is being detected therefore you are being asked to check the cable.

I don't know why you ran DBAN. I also don't know if it's a coincidence or if it was responsible for your problem, but it appears the HDD has failed. Run a diagnostics check.

I suspect the drive is being recognized in the bios but with no boot sector the bios is going on to the next listed boot device until it gets to the end of the list which in this case is the pxe boot.

As jefro points out you need to set the bios boot order to cd/dvd first so you can install a OS to the drive.

After I erased the HD in my hp notebook with DBAN, I tried to install a new os,it woud not load, I changed the bios to load from a flash drive, nothing just kept getting PXE-E61:media test falure check cable",I pulled CMOS batt out and back in nope,I took HD out of of Hp put it in my Dell I was able to load new os on the HD.Then I put the HD from my Dell in the HP,it seemed to start up ok and then I got a blu screen you know w/viruses on computer, check or change HD,run CHKDSK/F, how do that if I can't log on?.I exchanged HDs,same. But they both work fine in my much older Dell.Any ideas? Please Thanks Out.
