Ran Avast. Nothing will open now.

Specs: Windows 7
I ran Avast antivirus night before last. Yesterday, when I turned on my computer, none of my desktop icons worked. You click on them and nothing happens. Also, I cannot get into Excel or Word documents. I get the message "There was a problem sending the command to the program." I finally got Internet Explorer to work by going through Windows Explorer to find IE and made a new shortcut. This did not work for the other programs though. Also, I tried to go to Youtube and nothing will play saying I need to download Adobe Flash now. Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Try System Restore, choose a date to roll back to that's before the date you first noticed the problem:
Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore

Restart your PC and go to Advanced boot options by repeatedly pressing F8 after BIOS screen.

Try running System Restore from there.
