January 25, 2012 at 13:46:19
Specs: Windows 7 Ultimate, i5 2.6hz 8gb RAM
It's a pci-e card and it is installed and shows available networks, but simply will not connect! It goes so far as to asking for the network key ad then says is unable to connect. Im tryng to connect it to a Sagem Sky router.

So far I have:
Tried updating drivers
Tried using both Windows AND Ralink connection managers
Changed the pci-e socket
Changed the security settings

I'm using a Realtek USB WLAN in the meantime which works perfectly.

Its driving me INSANE! Please help!

Your PCI-e wireless card may not be compatible with the wireless security encryption that your router is set at. Try changing the your router's wireless encryption type to WEP and save the new setting.

now try connecting with your wireless card.

Yup, tried that! Same thing happens with WEP. It see's the networks (and using windows connection manager) goes so far as to input the code then says cannot connect. The ralink connection utility see all available networks but constantly lists the card as unconnected.

Did you by chance install the card before you loaded the driver. If so you will need to remove the card from the pci/usb slot, then uninstall the driver. If you uninstall driver and then remove the card there must be some trace of data still in your system and you will continue to have the problem. Once the card is removed and driver uninstalled, check and remove any reference in your folder directory. Then install the driver. It probably will not ask you to install the card as stated in the instructions, but once it completes, shut down the computer and refit the card. I had the same frustrating problem, but only by chance did this procedure and have had trouble free connections since. Good luck.

Hi, I searched for an updated driver for a Ralink 3690 pci-ex1 card that I purchased off ebay.
I had trouble installing mine, so I followed the advice here and installed the driver first, then installed the card physically.
The driver you got with the card probably is very old, I found I had lots of problems, with random disconnects and gateway errors, stopping the wifi from working intermittently.
I couldnt se the Ralink 3690 listed on the Ralink website though, but after a lot of seraching around I discovered that the 3690 uses the same driver package as the RT2860, although it isn't listed on the ralink driver download page. This updates the driver to september 2012 driver, its a lot more stable and works fine for me. Hope this helps.
