programs don't install from CD

Specs: Windows 7, 2.20 ghz/5 GB
I have a Dell studio 1440 running Windows 7 x64, and have recently had a problem where installation from CD's does not work. I have an external CD drive, and have tried several different CD drives with the same result. The CD drivers are all up to date, and I can install programs from files, but not from a CD. I have no problems reading data, burning, or playing CD's/DVD's, etc, but nothing will install from CD. Oddly, this seems to be related to Adobe Flash, because sometimes running programs requiring CD's causes it to crash; actually flash crashes randomly several times a day regardless of the version I have installed, but that is another issue. Does anyone have an idea how to fix this problem?

How are you attempting to install the programs from the external drive?

Try going to Windows explorer and open the disk. Then look for an install or setup file. Use that to install the program. Autostart may not work with an external drive.

I solved the problem-after submission, there was a link that led me to http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/... where I uninstalled apparently nonworking/conflicting versions 9 and 10 and replaced with installshield 10. After restart, the problem has been solved.

I would not have guessed that.

1/3 of highway deaths are caused by drunks. The rest are by people who can't drive any better than a drunk.
