Specs: Windows 7
I Inherited this laptop when my father passed away and I was trying to update all the settings and I was asked to input a product key. I found the sticker on the base of the laptop and after putting in the digits it says it isn't valid.

Most likely reason is that a different version of Windows has been installed on it by a previous owner since it left the factory.

The product key on the base of the laptop is valid only for the version of Windows that was pre-installed by the manufacturer, and that key is rarely if ever required or requested anyway, not even when a factory recovery is performed.

The laptop probably had XP or Vista pre-installed on it originally. That's what the key belongs to.
