Problems with W7 updates

Microsoft Windows 7 professional
June 11, 2011 at 11:21:04
Specs: W7 Pro, Intel Core2Duo/4gig
I'm running W7 on 3 machines and cannot complete updates to W7 on 2 of them. All are running Norton360. The 2 that won't update stopped updating Windows about the same time but on different updates, 1 on installing IE9 and the other on routine patches to Windows.

I've tried performing a clean boot and disabling the Norton Firewall and NAV before running update but it didn't help. I also tried downloading the IE9 stand-alone install but it wouldn't complete either.

The error code I'm getting on the machine that won't install IE9 is 80004005. The 2nd machine is getting error code 80070643 when it's attempting to install an update to PowerPoint. Any suggestions?

May I ask why you have Norton 360 ???? Not many IT Techs would use it, I
personally gave up at version 2002 !

I agree about Norton. I am using Windows Security Essentials and have been happy with it.

Dump Norton.

If you do a manual Windows update and it fails you are given options for repairing windows update automatically and more in depth options if needed (I had one machine that could not install SP1 until I did a repair this way) follow prompts and be insistent.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
