Problems Opening and Runing Firefox

May 13, 2013 at 04:17:06
Specs: Windows 7, 4 gb
After getting a crash report when trying to open Firefox I tried to open in safe mode ( by pressing shift ) and it opened but web pages were not loading as they should so I deleted the program, removed from the registry all indications to firefox and then did a clean install of the browser hoping that would solve the problem. But unfortunately it did not - I am still getting the crash reporter when I open firefox and I have to revert to opening in safe mode. Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated. korat2000

Dump Firefox and use Internet Explorer to download Google Chrome:

If it works in safe mode, but not normal mode, you have a problem with one of your plugins or extensions. Disable them selectively until you find the culprit.

Probably a plugin causing this , try to identify it and disable it , then FireFox should work fine.

The only problem with that is all addons and extensions are disabled when I start in safe mode and safe mode is the only way it will start.

You should still be able to go to the add-ons screen and hit the "Disable" button.

Did you disable both Extensions and Plugins? As well as set the Appearance back to default?

Restart in in Safe Mode and run Malwarebytes to see if malware is causing your problem. Remove all it finds.
Clean out all History, Cookies, Temp Internet files, etc. in Firefox in Safe Mode and try it in normal mode again.
Uninstall both Flash Player and Adobe Reader and reinstall them from new downloads and see if that helps.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Also, ive seen the google toolbar cause this, uninstall it.

Another issue would be malware of course, many of them will kill your browsers so you are unable to download any cleaning utilities.

You could also use revo uninstaller to uninstall firefox (if you can get out to the net via IE) and then reinstall it.

Yes both extentions and plugins disabled and in safe mode so is the default appearance and unable to change in safe mode.

As for malware etc PC Optimizer, Super Anti Spyware, CCleaner have been employed but to no avail. I did previously uninstall and remove all traces of firefox manually in the regstry and did a clean re install. But up to now no change...will only start in safe mode.

You do know Firefox doesn't keep its info in the registry, right? It keeps it in %AppData%\Mozilla

Manually removing registry entries is a crap shoot. You may miss many and may remove something in error.

I suggest you download Ccleaner Slim from the link below and run both the cleaner and registry modules.

Then run scannow SFC. See the second link below to learn how to run it.

ccleaner removes temp files, pc optimizer and super antispyware are junk and are NOT malware scanners. use malwarebytes or eset online scanner.

Spyware is not the same as a virus which is not the same as malware which is not the same as a worm.

They are all different.

A worm is a type of virus. A virus is a form of malware.

One of the programs in the start up is conflicting with Firefox. Disable whatever you don't need to load into memory at boot time. Also, look at the event viewer for more information.
