problem signing in/booting up

November 11, 2012 at 01:59:41
Specs: Windows 7
When starting up my HP Notebook (Windows 7) at times just after the screen with the Microsoft logo, the screen goes black and the 'sign in' screen does not appear. Have to turn off via the power button; if am very quick 'catching' this before power totally goes, it comes back to life at the 'sign in' screen. Any help much appreciated

Try a system restore to a date before this began happening. Use 'show more restore points' if needed. There appears to be a small error somewhere in a system file or the registry and this should fix it. System restore will not have any effect on your personal files but may undo some recent updates and program installs.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

If you can't catch it in time to do the suggested restore, then tap F8 while booting and get yourself to the Safe Mode screen. It might then hold up so that you can do the restore.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Many thanks for your suggestion, which I have implemented. As the problem did not occur always, time will tell if it has worked.

However, now I have lost my virginmedia email account. I try to log in and am told that AxtiveX is not enabled in w/indows Explorer. I do as they suggest, and when I check the settings it seems that 'Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins' is enabled, but I still get the same result?

Sorry, I know little about virginmedia email.

To me it would be best to first see if you can find the website to get the appropiate ActiveX control.

If so there might be a way to uninstall it then re-install with the download, or even download it ontop.

I assume they really do mean Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer) and that they are not talking about an addon.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
