i bought a self built pc with dodgy copy of windows xp and so bought win 7.
during install i had a power cut and now it won't load past the windows starting screen. i have tried to boot from win 7 cd but again doesn't get past windows starting screen.
replaced hd with new one hoping to fresh install onto it but again the same as above happens
sounds like a dodgy cd, but may also be a hardware fault.
did you try a compatability test?
install an old xp run a compat test see what it comes up withi hate computers!
but cant help myself....
Use advanced install and delete the partitions. Then create a boot partition and install to that. After you are setup in 7 you can partition the remaining drive space. Are you using Windows 7 64 bit version? The 32 bit version only supports 4GB of RAM.
AND make sure your DVD drive is first in boot order. You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
thanks for the advice but i still can't get beyond the starting windows screen and now can't even access the bios settings, i fear the worst and so will send it to be repaired. Thank you
