Hi All

Can someone please list for me all the possible reasons why a program in windows 7 would open up for a few seconds when you click on it and then close by itself(ie; crash)?

Regards John

I cannot list all the possible reasons, but on Windows 7 some older versions of applications just aren't compatible. You can check here:

The name of the program might help.
A scan with Malwarebytes might reveal an infection causing the problem.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Did you try scanning with Malwarebytes?
Check Task manager, if it is already running, close it (all Office 2010 that are open) and try launching it again.
Run Memtest86 via bootable CD to test for memory errors.
How much memory do you have?

If part of the Word 2010 program installed on a damaged portion of the hard disk, meaning some of the Word 2010 files reside crippled on the damaged sectors of the hard disk, this situation may cause instant crashes.

The only solution may be to run

CHKDSK /R /F

and then

SFC /SCANNOW

on a command prompt with Admin privileges to mark damaged sectors as bad. After the commands have been executed, reinstalling Word 2010 or Office 2010 may be necessary. No files from now on will be installed on those sectors of the hard disk marked as bad ( until, of course, new sectors become damaged/bad again ).

Please note that there are blank spaces before the slashes.
