password on boot enabled, does it have to be?

Specs: Windows Vista
haven't used my laptop for like 2 weeks and now i've forgotten my pasword to log in to my computer.. but in safe mode is has password on boot enabled, can i change it to disabled, would that get me back in to my computer?

Password help with laptops is virtually not available on this or any other forum due to the difficulty in proving ownership. You would be best advised to contacted the manufacturer for help but be prepared to provide proof of ownership documents.

Only 2 weeks since you used it and you've forgotten your password already.
Even I can do better than that.

Safe mode and regular mode passwords are the same. Unless we don't understand the question.

Almost no one ever makes a password reset disk. Dunno why not. If you did then use it.

Lastly is that you may be able to delete or remove the password with any number of disks. Other ways exist to maybe hack it. I think it is logonrecovery.com

1/3 of highway deaths are caused by drunks. The rest are by people who can't drive any better than a drunk.
