Overwhelming Yahoo - how to get rid if it

December 3, 2011 at 01:39:50
Specs: Windows 7, IntelQuadcore 2.8 GHz
My machine has a windows 7 64bit OS. Installed Firefox 8.01. Want google to be my default search engine, but whatever I do Yahoo, which searches primarily for the USA, keeps on propping up. Even if I delete Yahoo it comes back. Very annoying. What is happening here and how do I get rid of it.

When you installed 8.01 it probably set Yahoo as the default search engine. You need to change that. Otherwise even if you delete Yahoo from the list it will just keep re-listing it.

See if the link below helps with that problem.

Thank you Othehill. Found the solution there. It ran as follows:

The following will set location bar search back to the default Google browse by name search.
Type about:config into the location bar and press enter
Accept the warning message that appears, you will be taken to a list of preferences
Locate the preference keyword.URL, right-click on it and choose Reset
