Outlook stuffed need alternative

June 3, 2012 at 02:54:07
Specs: PC
Corrupt Outlook can't fix so want to set up Outlook Express to in effect receive the same messages/email addresses.
Windows 7 and I get the message from MS that I need to download a file to fix Outlook - done that it doesn't work - so thinking ??
I either set up a divert of all emails to gmail - and leave the corrupt Outlook unattended...
Or I somehow divert/import all Outlook future emails to Outlook Express? Amy clues about this? or maybe a better strategy?
If I access my Outlook from another computer (not my PC_ it all works fine ...but that is a hassle as it is a different computer not my desktop.

"Corrupt Outlook can't fix"
What have you tried?

"want to set up Outlook Express"
Dos'nt work on W7.

"I get the message from MS that I need to download a file to fix Outlook"
Are you sure it's MS?

Let us see a screenshot or photo of the message, so we can see EXACTLY what it says.

"...and I get the message from MS that I need to download a file to fix Outlook"

That, in and of itself, sounds suspicious (as mentioned). Outlook isn't "self-diagnosing", so I'd be suspicious of some type of virus/malware. Again, a screenshot of what you have would be helpful.

Download Mozilla Thunderbird and install it. During the install process you will get the option of importing the settings and emails from Outlook. You can use this instead, it is free, and works much like Outlook. Thunderbird now uses Tabs so if you fully open more than one email you switch between tabs for Inbox and each mail that is open like your browser. Once you get used to this difference, you will find that you like it better.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

I also think that MS message is suspicious.

Run your virus scans. Also install and Run MalwareBytes freebie as this often finds and fixes nasties that AV's can miss.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Cannot start MS Outlook Cannot open Outlook window set of folders can’t be opened.
Errors have been detected in the file
Quit all email enabled applications and then use Inbox repair tool (Scanpst.exe and repair errors ...
All of which I have done – still no go

So did you check for viruses as per my #5 before you tried that? If there is some "nasty" about then that needs to be eliminated before you try fixing the issue.

You asked for an alternative in your heading - this was given in #3.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
