install operating system after replacing hard drive laptop hp pavilion dv7
I have a 2 year old hp pavilion dv7 laptop paid almost $1000 for. HDD failure and will not boot up now. Replaced hdd but having trouble installing original operating system that came with the laptop. How do I reinstall os from rescue disks, OR do I have to buy Win7 now for several hundred more dollars???

Thank you immensely in advance.

Google is your friend. Look at the link below for instructions from HP. Those same instructions are probably included in your manual too.

If, for some reason, you restore disks are not functional you should be able to contact HP and buy restore disks for $25/50 dollars.

With a bit of luck you can use enough of this info for W7.
