An .mht file is a web page archive.

I've not found mht website saves too reliable (although I've not run into authentication error).

Copy it on a flash drive and see if you can read it on someone else's computer. That will prove whether it saved badly or it is a problem with your own computer.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

What program are you attempting to open it with? Like I said, it's a webpage archive so if it's not trying to open with Intenet Explorer, right click on it, select "open with", then select Intenet Explorer from the list.

As per #5 - as far as I know IE is the only thing that will open it. Most computers will default to IE for mht files without intervention so I'm wondering if it is one of those grubby saves I mentioned. We shall see.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Nope, only IE - see if it works on another computer otherwise we need to check out IE (might need the Reset option).

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
