Specs: Windows 7 Ultimate, Pentium Dual Core E-5200 8 Gigs RAM
Upgraded from Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit to Window Ult 64 bit.Keyboard row below func keys not working right if online using Windows Explorer, Firefox n Safari - Numbers don't work -- some type nothing;others type letter like k;with shift key, signs and symbols type nothing. I can get t numbers by using Num Lock and my numeric keypad. Tried 3 keyboards. One was a brand new Microsoft Ergonomic 4000 USB keyboard and it had the same problems. My wireless USB transmitter keyboard had the problem too. All have same problem. Keys are ok using Word, Wordpad, etc.Used repeat key speed test online and the keys were all ok then.

This began happening immediately after I upgraded to windows 7 ultimate. I am using an HP Pavilion a6667c desktop with 8 gigs of RAM and the most recent updates available for windows ultimate. The problem has occurred both before and after upgrading to service pack 1. I have noticed other people on the web posting about this problem too. I had no error messages when using Vista Home Premium 64 bit version and had installed all the most recent updates to it as well.

The only workaround I have found for this problem is to build myself a little table of the characters and symbols I cannot make and pasting them in when I am online using one of the three browsers I use most often. I have looked at my keyboard settings and have changed back and forth between US English and British English with no results.

As its a desktop pc have you tried another keyboard and also if others have this problem did they give you any indication of the problem.

Or maybe you could try this keyboard in another computer.

Yes, tried two other keyboards including a brand new Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard model 4000 , a USB keyboard. The other keyboard was a wireless keyboard from Gyro which has worked with all my other desktop computers and my notebook computers too. Others did not find a solution from my reading. Some posts on a microsoft board that seemed to be answered were folks asking for more information on the problem. I tried to give folks who might try to help me a great deal of information about my system.

Here's a second user experiencing the same. Number keys work in all other applications, just not in Firefox 6 and IE 8 and 9. On a Dell laptop that worked fine on Vista Home Premium with all updates. Just installed Windows 7 with SP1.
