I would try re- installing Adobe Air. If an update failed it probably left it in an unstable state. Re-installing should sort it out.

We need to know the file type of these attachments and what they are.

If you save one (outside email) does it open then by double clicking the file?

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Do a system restore to a date before the attempted install. Then run Malwarebytes to make sure that there was no malware that might have interrupted the install. Then download a new copy of the installer (if you still want it) and try again.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

After downloading the file, right-click it, go to Open With, and select the appropriate program. Go further to Choose default program to set the default program to open with that file type.

There are a handful of other ways to set default programs for file types. You can find a few of these by going to Start orb > Control Panel > Programs > Default Programs, or by pressing Windows key + R for the Run command and copy/paste: control /name Microsoft.DefaultPrograms
