Not responding external HD

Specs: Windows 7
I have a 500g 'my passport' WD external HD. I used it to save all movies that I have on my laptop, but all of a sudden when I transferred 1 movie from my laptop it said "error, run chkdsk", i did this but nothing happened. I can still open the files that I have in my HD so I decided to copy it in my laptop and then reformat my HD. After I reformat, I can transfer photos but still not movies, and during the middle of transferring it stop on responding and would hung.

What would I do about this, can anyone help me to solve my problem. Thanks

I would recommend contacting the manufacturer (WD) and get their recommendation. I know they have a very good set of hard drive utilities on their website to test and format their drives and that is probably what they will first recommend trying. If you work it through with them first and you still have problems, they are very likely to replace a bad drive without problems if you give them the first crack at it (even if the warranty period is recently past).

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
This site is about helping people, lets keep it that way.
