not allowed to leave Windows 7 Homegroup

May 8, 2011 at 07:01:51
Specs: Windows 7
my computer running windows 7 out of the blue has me joining a network group when I did not. It will not allow me to leave the group and my password sharing is turned on and won't let me turn it off. When I try to leave the homegroup, the option to view or print the homegroup password and the change the password are not lit up for me to access. I choose the leave the homegroup option and get the reply "Windows couldn't remove your computer from the homegroup.

You can go to Control Panel->System and Security->Administrative Tools, and double click on Services.

Locate and stop following 2 services, after that try to leave homegroup again. You could also set Startup type of services to Disabled.

HomeGroup Listener
HomeGroup Provider

Hope this helps.

Are you in an account with administrative privileges? If not then you should be.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
