not able to partition my main drive

October 9, 2010 at 09:11:18
Specs: Windows 7, i3/3gb ddr3
I tried to partition my c drive (containing os) by using disk management. after shrinking the drive, when I try to create a new volume from the unallocated space I get the following message:

"Dynamic disks are not supported by this operating system"

I am using genuine windows 7 home basic.

Please tell me the difference between "basic drive" and "dynamic drive" also.

Are you using a laptop computer?

Look at the link below for an explanation of the differences in the two types. I suggest you never use a dynamic disk.

Go to http://www./ and download the free partition manager master home edition and use it to create a new partition. Then the unallocated space can be formatted (NTFS) and a drive letter assigned to it and you will be fine
