None of my programs work b/c DOS

June 12, 2012 at 16:37:58
Specs: Windows 7
Every time I open up any program on my laptop, notepad pops up saying that this program cannot be used in DOS mode. How do I shut off DOS mode?

Though it's in the Vista forum, this may help:

Icons have been associated wrong. Fix the file associations. Either use default or use a program to try to fix them.

Could fix then one at a time too.

Could do a restore point to a time when it worked.

Errors don't open in notepad, "DOS mode," and the fact that the account is brand new.

First of all, obviously it's a new account because I've never had a problem with my laptop and second of all if errors don't open in notepad please explain to me why my laptop has chosen to do what you think is impossible.

I can't use any internet associated programs on my laptop so if I downloaded those files on my brothers computer and saved them onto a USB drive would they still have the same effect?

Sherry,

I apologize that I've offended you, but this happens all the time so we have to keep our guards up a little. Does this happen with EVERY program you run? Say if you run Internet Explorer or Solitaire, they both produce the same result?

OK, so I have exactly the same problem (nearly everything i open, opens in notepad and says "cannot be used in dos mode". What i think, is that only the ".exe" files are corrupt. Also when i start my computer it opens around 30 note pads. It might be a virus, but i cant open any anti-virus softwate as it just opens in note pad (its really annoying).
Shery have you had any success? Please help!

Thanks.
