No sound since Windows 7 installation

Specs: Windows 7 ultimate
Hi all, I've recently upgraded to Windows 7 but can't seem to get any sound workng. It was fine before the upgrade. I have installed the sound drivers from the disc for the Gamesurround Fortissimo III 7.1 soundcard but I just have a red cross over the speaker icon in the bottom right of the screen that says, no audio output is installed. Any suggestions on how to get my sound back? Do I need to search for an updated Windows 7 compatible driver?

Yes. You should have run the Windows 7 compatibility program
before upgrading, this would have told you of any
hardware/software issues. First place to go is the Dell website,
put in the model of your pc under 'support' & see if there are any
Win7 drivers available. After that I'm afraid it's a case of
Googling until you find a driver that works with your card.

Many drivers that work with Vista will also work with Windows 7, but many will not. The Windows 7 upgrade adviser would have warned you about this. Some devices will not work with Windows 7 at all. In some cases it is necessary to uninstall the device before the upgrade and reinstall it after.

Obtain a driver from the manufacturer and follow their recomedations.

I'll have to keep searching. I did run the Windows Compaibility programme but it didn't mention any issues at all.

wankybollox,
Just download the driver ( whatever OS) and run it in compatibility mode. You may have to install it in administrator mode first.
