No Operating System?

Sony Vaio vgn-ar350e notebook
April 14, 2010 at 14:58:28
Specs: Windows 7
Okay, so yesterday around 11 am my computer asked me to update my internet explorer, so I clicked okay. After that a "Security Tool" scam thing uploaded on my computer and said that I had all these viruses and tried to get me to give them my information and junk and it would take care of the problem. I read a couple of things on how to get rid of the virus and after a couple of hours it seems to have totally screwed up my whole computer. Now, when I restart it with my Windows 7 installation, it says I have no Operating System. I can get into the BIOS menu but, that doesn't seem to help. What can I do?

You should have a recovery partition and you were probably asked about creating recovery disks when you first started using it (most do not). Check your manual, there should be a specific 'F' key to press while booting to access the recovery partition. This will bring you back to your original new condition so if you need to save any files, you should do this first. You should be able to save your files using a Live Linux CD and save to a USB drive.

press f10 while booting this should bring up the sony recovery options, follow the instructions and your machine should start as fresh as the day it was bought, however you will lose everything on your C;/ drive, but you have probably lost that data anyway.

i hate computers!
but cant help myself....

As soon as it is working right again, make those recovery disks, they will invaluable in the event of a hard drive failure, and they are good insurance anyway. See Sony's website if you do not find the program yourself.
