is this a laptop or a desktop?
try tapping the f8 key at boot, try last known good config/repair and system restore.
if they all fail you can do a factory restore which will wipe the C; drive and restore your system to the day you bought it, the process is different for each manufacturer but usually you would tap a F key at boot and follow instructions.

i hate computers!
but cant help myself....

I would suggest first make sure that no wires have escaped from your hard drive and make sure they are tight. After that, make sure your boot priority has not changed in the BIOS. BIOS usually can be accessed by pressing the "DEL" in the beginning, then go to (the options vary from one system) that contains one of the startup preferences. Make sure your main hard drive is on that list. Also flash drive or floppy drive are not connected, because sometimes the computer would start the first, although there is not much on them.

thanks to all who answered my query . it turned out to be something ridiculous. i got into my bios settings and found that no sata hard drive was there. so i took a chace and pulled of the cover to my comp and my hard drive virtually fell into my hand..... seems that last time i was cleaning it i neglected to replace the 2 screws that hold my hard drive in place.. so i have fixed that problem.
thanks again
