no login box when computer starts up

March 27, 2011 at 08:55:36
Specs: Windows 7
whenever i start up the computer, the login screen is blank with no picture and login box. the last time i was on the computer i was stupid enough to mess around with the registry in an attempt to fully un-install something, which has probably caused this.

safe mode gives exactly the same result, so i basically cannot get into the computer at all.

any ideas as to how i can fix this without doing a full factory settings repair?

any help appreciated.

First see if you can get into safe mode and try a system restore from there.
If not, then use Install disk, repair/recovery disk, or recovery partition to do a repair. You should do a repair/restore from there, where it can access missing or corrupted files and registry entrys.
In the future, back up the registry if you ever get the itch to try a manual change again (hopefully not).

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
