Try and update to the latest BIOS which you should find on the motherboard manufacturers site or if you are using a brand system such as dell you need to go to their support/download site for one.

Although you say you do not have a display adapter in Device Manager, you do have a graphic output to a monitor.

In this case, you should go either to the PC manufacturer web site or motherboard maker's web site to download display adapter drivers.

You don't need to update your BIOS version. The BIOS has nothing to do with your problem. Follow the advice in #2 above.
