Nikon / Coolpix 5400
October 5, 2010 at 05:30:09
Specs: Windows 7
Hello

My Nikon coolpix 5400 camera ( 5 years old , firmware 1.4 )
is not detected by windows 7 USB.

When I plug the camera in, nothing happens.

No extra removable drive, no USB-detection ( green thing )

In hardware configuration all usb port are OK,
No message or !!!!'s.

New hardware found does not give results.

Nikon says it's a Microsoft problem, but there I can't find anything on this subject

Any help is welcome

Have you looked in Disk Management to see if it shows up there?

How did you previously access the camera? Use any software to view the photos?

I tested my camera with my old pc, where it worked fine until a few weeks ogo.

It proved that the camera is not seen there either, so I guess that the USB cable is defect.

I got myself a memory card reader ( price ca E 10 , probably cheaper than a new USB cable )
so my problem is solved.

That is usually my answer, because running from a camera is quite iffy anymore. Another thing I do is only install Picasa from google, it's free, and as soon as you plug your card in, you can have it automatically loaded into Picasa....has great editing features too! Just a thought....as I find other proprietory software really demanding on a machine, like kodak, nikon, etc software.

Some HELP in posting on Computing.net plus free progs and instructions Cheers
