Solved Newly installed IE9 not loaded properly in W7

November 25, 2011 at 08:46:53
Specs: Windows 7
I have a window 7 PC and I have been using Windows Explorer 8. In a bid to speed up browsing I have tried to upgrade to Windows Explorer 9. It claims to have loaded but when I open Explorer 9 all I get is a blank page with just the tab bar at the top and the backward and forward arrows.

Any help would be appreciated but in idiots language please as I am not very computer literate!

Thanks in advance Les.

Do you get the menu when you hit Alt? Do you have an address bar? If so, does it say about:blank? Does right-clicking in the top area give you a view menu?

If not, you can go to control panel/internet options, and on the Advanced tab Reset IE.

Or in CP/Programs and Features, check installed updates and you can uninstall IE9 and then reinstall, while nothing is running.

Yes I get a menu when I press Alt and I have the address bar as well as the Home Favourites and Tools buttons. Also when I right click in the top area I get various menus.

The address bar does NOT say about blank but has the Google address which is my home page.

I have tried clicking the Favourites button and this slowly gives me my favourites list which I can click on. When I do so the address appears in the address bar and the page appears to load but the screen remains blank. All this happens very slowly.

Thanks for your help

Les.

I have left the screen up for about ten minutes and when I came back to it the blank screen was now showing boxes showing my most used sites. I have tries clicking on one and again the address bar shows the site but the screen does not update.

It looks as if explorer is finding the sites but my PC cannot display the results.

That boxy thing is the New Tab page. The browser is there, but there's a conflict preventing it from functioning right. It could be analyzed, but probably the easiest way forward is to uninstall/reinstall as I mentioned above.

Also you could download a better browser for comparison, such as Opera or Chrome.

I have tried re-installing it several times but the same thing keeps happening. I think I will follow the old addage: if at first you don't succeed.... give up! I will try Chrome as you suggest.

Many thanks for your help

Kind regards
Les.

Also try FireFox, it is my preference.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
