Specs: Windows 7
That seems a lot to me. My father in law said that it probably came loaded with a bunch of junk that i don't need. How do I know what I need and what i can get rid of? and how do i get rid of it? I'm not super tech savvy. Any help would be much appreciated.

Click start, run, type msconfig, press enter, go to the startup tab, uncheck what you don't need to load into memory at startup, click apply, ok & restart. Click ok again after it restarts. That way nothing is deleted but it won't load.

It isn't easy to clean up a crapware installed system. There are web sites devoted to making more streamlined installs. Start at programs to see if you can remove any. msconfig and maybe registry would be starts too. Might end up having to install sysinternals tools to find out where some are hiding.

98 processes.

Are thses the processes for all users or for current user only ?

Do they give you any trouble ?

Don't you have enough memory ?

If they do not cause your computer to run as slow as a turtle, then you should not bother as you say you are not super tech savvy.

If you are curious to determine whether you can do the cleaning yourself, make an image of your system or create at least a restore point, learn how to run these recovery utilities in case you cannot boot your computer and go on.

You'd be better off learning other stuff maybe too. I'd be sure you know how to return it to OEM state. It may be that you have to make disks or buy them now before it is too late.

Also, if you have a usb drive you need to create backup's now and often to help recover it. Get a good hosts file.

The crapware can be removed but be sure you test your recovery now before it is too late.

Get a good security suite on it. Use standard user accounts at all times. Use admin runas feature to do admin tasks.

What method did you use to determine that 98 processes were "actually running"?

I'm wondering if you are right because it sounds like one heck of a lot.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
