Obvious question: Did you install MS Office since migrating to Windows 7?

A .shs file is a Scrap file, so I doubt you will be able to use it.

Excel files are use an .xls extension originally and I believe the newer one is .xlsx so apparently the file you thought was an Excel file was not one. If it was another spreadsheet format I would have recommended openoffice.org as a tool that can open many office formats and resave them in more common formats (as well as being a good office suite for those who do not want to spend for MS Office), but in this case, it will not help you. If you have a back up from the old computer (or prior operating system), look carefully at it to see if you really have the correct file somewhere. Sorry.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
